As Andre Villas-Boas attempts to fend off pressure from the club’s supporters following the poor start to the season, he also has another situation to deal with. Having announced to the public that Brad Friedel will remain Spurs’ No.1 for now, he appears to have upset new signing Hugo Lloris who says “it’s never nice” to hear such comments.
Spurs made no secret of the fact that they were chasing Lloris for the whole summer and eventually landed their man courtesy of a £12m deal. However, even though many supporters were delighted to sign a player with such a positive reputation in Europe, there were concerns at just how the France international would fit in. Despite his advancing years, Brad Friedel is still regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the top flight and few would disagree that he would have been very hard done by to lose his place. AVB seemed to realise this, quickly telling the press that Lloris would have to earn his shirt in the team.
Obviously, this hasn’t gone down well with the new signing. There were murmurs of dissatisfaction after France manager Didier Deschamps revealed that he was not happy with Villas-Boas’ comments last week. However, Lloris has added more fuel to the fire, stating, “Obviously it’s never nice, but we’ll see when we return to work on Wednesday.”
Furthermore, Friedel believes that his place in the team is fully vindicated. When asked about the situation, he told the press, “Right now I believe the shirt is mine to lose, I believe the manager came out and said that. If that’s the case, then great.”
Bearing the above in mind, it remains to be seen how AVB handles this situation. He has come under fire in the past for his man management skills and following this situation, the same looks to be occurring again.
The new Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has told Tottenham FC News that he will be holding showdown talks with the manager Andre Villas-Boas over his position at the club.
The former Lyon goalkeeper was signed on the transfer deadline day for around £ 12 million, thus making him one of the most expensive goalkeepers in the Premier league. However, the manager Andre Villas-Boas said after the match against Norwich that he will retain Brad Friedel as his number one goalkeeper for the time being. The 41-year-old Brad Friedel may be an excellent goalkeeper, but he is coming to the end of his career.
As a result, the club decided to bring in the 26-year-old Hugo Lloris as his replacement, while they have also other first choice goalkeepers like Gomes and Carlo Cudicini. The French international has said that he was expected to be part of the starting line-up given his transfer fee and his stature within the game. However, he has expressed his surprise that he will not be the first choice goalkeeper at the club. He has also said that it will seriously affect his stature within the international team. Hugo Lloris is the first choice goalkeeper for the French national team.
“Obviously it’s never nice but we’ll see when we return on Wednesday. When I join up with the national team I concentrate uniquely and we’ll see about my personal situation when I go back,” said the goalkeeper in response to his future at the new club Tottenham. Meanwhile, the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has also come out in support of his fellow countryman by saying that he expects Lloris to be the first choice goalkeeper because Brad Friedel does not have many more years left in him. The American International has not missed a Premier league match since 2004.
Roberto Soldado has said that the English Club, Tottenham Hotspur, wanted to sign him and the authorities of the club had tried to contact his agent a few days ago. But, he rejected the offer of the English club and decided to continue playing for his club Valencia. Soldado said that he doesn’t want to leave Valencia at the moment and he would like to finish his contract with the Spanish club. Soldado’s contract with Valencia is going to finish in 2017 which means that the Spanish striker is not in a mood to leave Valencia in the near future.
Soldado joined Valencia in 2010. He made his debut for Valencia against Bursaspor and in his very first match for the club, he scored a goal. In his very first season for Valencia, Soldado produced a number of match winning performances. Soldado’s brilliant performances helped Valencia to qualify for the Champions League. Soldado continued to shine for Valencia in the last season as well. He scored a total of 25 goals in the last season. Due to his consistent performances, his contract was extended by the club for the next 5 years in June 2012. Soldado’s performance in the last two seasons has been phenomenal. So, it is not surprising that he was approached by one of the top English Clubs, Tottenham Hotspur.
The performance of Valencia was quite good in the last season. The team finished at no. 3 in the Spanish La Liga and Soldado played a big role in that. Valencia would have massive hopes with Soldado in the upcoming season as well. On being asked about his plans in the upcoming season, Soldado said that he wants to see Valencia winning the La Liga in this season. The Valencia players are determined to do that. As per Soldado, he is desperately waiting for the La Liga to start.
Tottenham are interested in the possibility of bringing French national team manager Laurent Blanc as the replacement for Harry Redknapp, according to the Tottenham news website. Tottenham recently parted company with Harry Redknapp, whose four-year spell with the London club came to an end in the most acrimonious circumstances.
Tottenham finished the season in the fourth position for the second time in the last three seasons under Harry Redknapp, but they failed to qualify for the Champions League due to the success of Chelsea in the competition this season. However, differences between the manager Harry Redknapp and chairman Daniel Levy grew over the potential transfers for next season.
This has resulted in the exit of the former Portsmouth manager, who came to the club at a time when they were in the relegation zone. The search for a new manager continues for chairman Daniel Levy, who is thought to have many high profile managers on the shortlist. One of the managers who is extremely favourite for the job is the French national team manager Laurent Blanc, who is out of the contract after the end of Euro 2012. The former Bordeaux manager has already stated that he would like to return to club management after his stint with the national team. David Beckham has also been linked to a coaching role.
“It’s always gratifying when big clubs are interested in you. I can sign elsewhere, before or during the Euros. I often hear it said that it’s the boss who decides whether or not to extend the contract of a player or a coach at the end of their contract, but people forget the employee can also decide for themselves. My intention is to carry on with the France team, but the fact remains, I have not extended my contract. If I get an exceptional offer, I could very well decide to leave for that club,” said Blanc in April.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has said that the race for the top four is still wide open after his team defeated relegation threatened opponents Blackburn Rovers 2-0 on Sunday. Tottenham were coming into the match on the back of a poor run of form, which has seen them get only one victory in their last six matches. However, Blackburn did not pose any kind of a threat for them in the match, which played into the hands of Tottenham. This coupled with the loss of Newcastle United on Saturday meant that Tottenham have now moved level on points with Newcastle in the table with three matches remaining in the season.
Newcastle will be making the trip to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night in what is thought to be a crucial encounter for the race for the fourth position. Chelsea have come into form at just the right stage in the season. They defeated London rivals QPR 6-1 on Sunday evening. This match not only helped them get the three points, but also helped them improve their goal difference massively. It could prove to be vital when it comes to the top four finish. Redknapp will be hoping to get three victories from the three remaining matches for his club.
“It is all to play for, we have got a difficult couple of away games,” he said. “I can’t see Chelsea losing many games at the moment either, they are looking really strong whatever team he (Roberto Di Matteo) picks. They have got Newcastle in the week and that is a big game. Newcastle have got tough fixtures – they have got to go to Everton on the last game of the season, you wouldn’t want that one and they’ve got Manchester City at home,” said Redknapp after the 2-0 win over Blackburn.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has said that he is extremely delighted with the prospect of being able to play at the new Wembley once again in his managerial career. Tottenham managed to enter into the semifinals of the FA Cup after convincingly beating Bolton Wanderers 3-1 in the quarter-final stage at White Hart Lane on Tuesday night. Redknapp will be taking charge of his third FA Cup date at Wembley in just five years when his side face Chelsea in April. Redknapp has won the competition with Portsmouth before taking Tottenham to the semifinals back in 2010.
Louis Saha, Gareth Bale, and Ryan Nelsen scored the goals for Tottenham in a very emotional night for Bolton Wanderers. Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the pitch during the original match between the two clubs, which was abandoned. Bolton managed to grab a consolation goal through Kevin Davies late in the match. This is the first victory Tottenham have achieved since the 3-1 win over Stevenage almost a month ago. The other semi-final will see Liverpool take on Everton at Wembley. Redknapp spoke in delight about the two matches, which promised to be extremely exciting due to the history between the four clubs.
“I am looking forward to it, it will be a great weekend. I wouldn’t like to pick a winner from either tie, Liverpool and Everton are both capable of winning the Cup. It is an even game, you couldn’t pick a winner between us and Chelsea. Chelsea have beaten Benfica in the Champions League tonight (the Blues won 1-0 in Tuesday’s quarter-final first leg in Lisbon), which was a fantastic result, so it is wide open,” Harry Redknapp said after the 3-1 win over Bolton. This win will also be extremely crucial in their efforts to ward off any challenge from Chelsea for the top four position.
Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has said that he is hoping to be fit for this weekend’s clash with Arsenal in the Premier league. Tottenham will be taking on bitter rivals Arsenal in the Premier league this weekend. It is one of the most anticipated fixtures during the Premier league season. Emmanuel Adebayor has a long history with Arsenal, both as a player and as an opponent. While at Manchester City, Emmanuel Adebayor famously run down the length of the pitch in order to celebrate in front of Arsenal fans after scoring a goal against Arsenal. It drew intense criticism from every corner of the world.
Despite having spent many seasons with Arsenal, Emmanuel Adebayor has an increasing animosity with the fans. It is expected to reach new heights given that Emmanuel Adebayor is playing for archrivals Tottenham now. Emmanuel Adebayor moved on loan deal from Manchester City in the summer. He has been one of the inspirational players for Harry Redknapp this season, as he has not only helped Tottenham stay ahead in the Champions League race, but also move a step closer towards winning the title as well. The 27-year-old has said that he expects to be fit for the match against Arsenal.
“Just finished training, really happy with the progress, knee is looking much better. Working on my fitness for Sunday,” Emmanuel Adebayor said ahead of the match on his Twitter account. Tottenham are currently above Arsenal in the Premier league table, which is a scenario that does not happen always. Emmanuel Adebayor has been one of the major reasons towards it happening. Even more impressive is the fact that Tottenham have 10 point advantage over Arsenal at the moment, while they can extend that even further this weekend. Tottenham are just seven points behind leaders Manchester City.
Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric has said that the club need not worry about the 1-1 draw with Wolves during the weekend. Tottenham could have gone level on points with leaders Manchester City with a win over a struggling Wolves side.
Tottenham came into the match with high praise from their manager Harry Redknapp, but they were unable to take advantage of this situation, as they could only draw with Wolves. As a result of this draw, Manchester City have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table to five points, which will be very significant at this stage of the season.
However, Luka Modric has said that the club need not worry about the dropped points in one match because they have been quite brilliant in the last few weeks. Tottenham have not only overtaken the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, but also Chelsea as well. This has pushed them into the third position in the table just behind leaders Manchester City and Manchester United. Ahead of the match with Wolves, Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp was speaking on the title credentials of Tottenham this season. He said that Tottenham are very well capable of winning the title this season.
“It was a shame we didn’t win. It was a hard game, especially when Wolves scored first. It’s always harder when the opposition score first against us at White Hart Lane, they can then sit back and it’s hard to break them down. They fought for everything, defended well and took a point from us,” Harry Redknapp said after the 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Tottenham’s lead over Chelsea has now been cut by two points following this result. Manchester City will play again until Monday when they take on Wigan athletic.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp was left furious at referee Chris Foy after the defeat his team suffered against Stoke. Several big decisions went against the London club and Redknapp felt that the referee was actively enjoying his repeated decisions in favour of Stoke City.
Stoke started brightly in front of their home crowd and Matthew Etherington scored twice in the first half against his former club, both goals coming inevitably from set pieces. However after the break, Tottenham came out and showed exactly why they had gone 11 games unbeaten before their trip to the Britannia Stadium. They had chance after chance, and it was during this dominant second half that most of the controversial decisions were made.
Spurs pulled a goal back through a penalty awarded for a foul on Modric. Replays showed that although there was probably contact, Modric went down extremely easily, and could certainly have stayed on his feet. After this however, Foy started to favour the home side. He disallowed an Adebayor goal that proved to be at least a yard onside and should have stood as the equaliser, then denied two possible handballs. One of these saw Ryan Shawcross elbow a shot off the line that was heading into the net, albeit in a way that looked as though it could have been a header. Finally, Kaboul was dismissed after two yellows, the first for dissent, and the second for a slightly clumsy but fairly innocuous tackle on Walters.
Immediately after the game, Redknapp made his views clear, despite his normal reluctance to criticise referees, who he acknowledges have a very difficult job. “I never complain about referees’ decisions – I have not done it in 30 years of management, never. But today, I’m afraid, he got some badly wrong. I felt he was quite enjoying giving us nothing,” said the Spurs manager. “When someone’s two yards onside, like Adebayor was, how’s the linesman not seen it?”
