SPURS WANT TOP FOUR

Tottenham are looking to seal their third top four finish in four seasons, as they compete with the likes of Chelsea, Everton, and Arsenal. The manager Andre Villas-Boas has managed steady the ship after an indifferent start to his managerial reign at White Hart Lane. The club are just one point behind the European champions Chelsea in the table, while they hold a comfortable four point advantage over archrivals Arsenal. Despite this, Arsenal had been considered as the favourites to finish in the top four by the end of the season. Villas-Boas has said that it is extremely crucial that the Tottenham players regard each and every point to be important.

Tottenham will be taking on Newcastle during the weekend. They will have the opportunity to go into the third position with a victory over Alan Pardew’s men. There are 14 games left in the Premier league season. Tottenham were in a similar position last season as well, but an incredible collapse in the final few months of the campaign meant that they could only finish in the fourth position. This ultimately led to the losing the opportunity to play the Champions League as Chelsea managed to win this competition leaving only one berth available for English clubs.

“Ideally, this is a game where we can continue our objectives. A win moves us into third place and we can then wait for the results. That’s our focus for the weekend. Now, every game is important. There are lots of games still to be played, but every single point can make a difference,” said Villas-Boas. His former club Chelsea, meanwhile, will be hosting Wigan on Saturday. The form of the European champions has been extremely well over the last couple of weeks. Any dropped points from this encounter is likely to result in Tottenham leapfrogging them.
