Tottenham inconsistent form continues

Tottenham’s inconsistent form continued after they lost 2-1 to Leicester City at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

After reaching the League Cup semifinals of the weeks back, Tottenham would have been looking to achieve a similar run in the FA Cup as well. Mauricio Pochettino has spoken about the importance of winning titles in order to bring the squad together for future successes.

This loss certainly does not read well in the hopes of the club doing well in the League Cup semi-final against Sheffield United on Wednesday despite having a lead on aggregate.

Pochettino witnessed his team crumble in the last 10 minutes of the match, but he refused to blame complacency.

The North London outfit took the lead in the first half through Andros Townsend’s penalty, but Leicester continued to threaten with several opportunities of their own. They were, however, unable to get back into the match until the 83rd minute when the star striker Ulloa opened the scoring for the blues. The comeback was completed in injury time when Tottenham gave the ball away poorly and it was converted by Schlupp. This defeat brings an end to the run of three consecutive victories in all competitions.

“We made two mistakes at the end of the game and we paid by now being out of the FA Cup.The game was always under our control. We scored in the first half and created chances to add to it. It is football. We can make a mistake but I am very disappointed because I think we expect to be through to the next round. So I’m not happy,” said Pochettino. Spurs may have a 2-1 lead over Sheffield United on aggregate, but this certainly may not seem convincing especially after this home defeat. The League Cup semi-final second leg is at Bramall Lane.
