The new Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has told Tottenham FC News that he will be holding showdown talks with the manager Andre Villas-Boas over his position at the club.

The former Lyon goalkeeper was signed on the transfer deadline day for around £ 12 million, thus making him one of the most expensive goalkeepers in the Premier league. However, the manager Andre Villas-Boas said after the match against Norwich that he will retain Brad Friedel as his number one goalkeeper for the time being. The 41-year-old Brad Friedel may be an excellent goalkeeper, but he is coming to the end of his career.

As a result, the club decided to bring in the 26-year-old Hugo Lloris as his replacement, while they have also other first choice goalkeepers like Gomes and Carlo Cudicini. The French international has said that he was expected to be part of the starting line-up given his transfer fee and his stature within the game. However, he has expressed his surprise that he will not be the first choice goalkeeper at the club. He has also said that it will seriously affect his stature within the international team. Hugo Lloris is the first choice goalkeeper for the French national team.

“Obviously it’s never nice but we’ll see when we return on Wednesday. When I join up with the national team I concentrate uniquely and we’ll see about my personal situation when I go back,” said the goalkeeper in response to his future at the new club Tottenham. Meanwhile, the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has also come out in support of his fellow countryman by saying that he expects Lloris to be the first choice goalkeeper because Brad Friedel does not have many more years left in him. The American International has not missed a Premier league match since 2004.
